Insulation Resistance

Insulation Resistance

What is insulation Resitance?
“Insulation Resistance “ refers to the resistance of a part along which flows a current from conductor through an insulating material to another live part or to the metal case of the equipment, for instance. If this resistance is low , there is more current leakage resulting in a greater fire hazard coused by electric shocks or overheating and an increased risk or damage from short-circuiting. It is for reason that is value is regulated by the technical standarts pertaining to electrical equipment

Low voltage indoor wiring (when voltage to earth is 150V or less), minimum insulation resitance is 0,1 Mega Ohm and leakage current is 1 mA.
Low voltage indoor wiring (when voltage to earth over 150V ), minimum insulation resitance is 0,2 Mega Ohm and leakage current is 1 mA.
Low voltage motors and electrical equipment, minimum insulation is 1 Mega Ohm

Insulation resitance is measured using an insulation resistance gauge (or megger tester)
